Mentorship is one of the most important leadership roles in the A/E/C industry. However, mentors are frequently overlooked and rarely rewarded. The PWC Excellence in Mentoring Award was created to acknowledge an outstanding man or woman who has been a positive role model for women in our industry. Mentors from any industry discipline (architecture, engineering, construction, industry teachers, lawyers, and industry marketing professionals) are eligible for this award.
It is anticipated that the recipient of this award will have a history of investing in the personal and professional development of individuals. In addition, they will have had a sustained career commitment to mentoring and a significant positive impact on their mentees’ careers.
For the purpose of this award, mentoring is defined as the process of guiding, supporting, and promoting the career development of others. The key roles of a mentor should include, but are not limited to, career development, professional guidance, professional integrity, and positive role modeling.
Applications for this award will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Demonstrated dedication to the mentee (consistency, longevity, time dedicated).
- Positive impact on their mentees’ career (encouragement, "cheerleader," guidance, positive influence).
- Provides a model for professional integrity (interaction with coworkers/clients, positive or negative).
- Is a person that you admire and want to be like (respect, handles stress constructively, trustworthy).
- Is a teacher: helps the mentee(s) to acquire knowledge, information, and/or skills; suggests new sources of information.
- Resource: provides mentee(s) with new opportunities for diverse experiences (introduction to new ideas, people, and places).
- Encourages mentee(s) to approach other people as resources.
